Tuition & Affordability

Tuition Assistance is not a one-size-fits-all approach at Oakland Catholic.

We recognize that your daughter, your family, and your financial situation are unique to you. Income level is only one of many factors taken into consideration. Many private schools incentivize families to enroll with generous tuition assistance plans for freshman year, followed by diminishing assistance in subsequent years. Oakland Catholic is loyal to returning families. We partner with each family to ensure that their daughter joins the OC Community and stays through graduation!

Last year Oakland Catholic awarded $1 million in financial aid to meet 40-50% of our families' needs. Financial aid packages are built from a variety of sources. Read on to learn more about affording OC, and always feel free to contact our Admissions Office with any questions or concerns.

Who Should Apply for Tuition Assistance?

Sample Scenarios

SCENARIO 1

We're a 2-parent household with 3 children—one entering high school and two in private elementary school. We both work, with a joint income of about $100-$150k. We assume that we wouldn’t get any aid, which means OC would put a lot of stress on our budget, especially since we'd be sending another child in a few years. (Click title for our response.)

I am a single parent raising my two daughters. I work full-time, but earn under $50,000. I do have some savings, but as much as I want to send my daughter to Oakland Catholic, I don’t want to exhaust them. I may need additional assistance outside of what OC offers but don't know where to begin. (Click title for our response)

SCENARIO 3

I have consistently provided for my family at a level of $150–$175k annually, but with 4 children all in Catholic schools and ongoing medical expenses for my spouse (that may increase), we don’t see how we can afford Oakland Catholic, particularly if my salary changes. (Click title for answer.)

How to Apply for Tuition Assistance

Step 1:

Apply to OC. Upon acceptance, complete the FACTS aid application (available end of January) and complete by March 15. Funds diminish as we approach the next school year, so complete asap.

Step 2:

Tuition Assistance awards are made in April/May and will be reflected on the tuition statement for the next school year. Awards are automatically uploaded to the FACTS accounts of registered families.

Step 3:

If new circumstances arise after completing your FACTS aid application, contact our Business Office to inquire about adjustments. We are committed making things work for you within our means!

Scholarships

Oakland Catholic High School offers an array of scholarship opportunities, both merit and need-based. To be considered for one of the scholarships below, you must first receive acceptance to OC, as well as complete the required Scholarship Entrance Exam (for merit scholarship consideration). Once accepted, you may complete the form below in order to inquire about eligibility, as requirements for each scholarship vary.

Recipients of merit scholarships will be notified in their acceptance packets. Those receiving named scholarships or scholarships that require a demonstration of financial need will receive notice in late April/early May with the Tuition & Financial Aid Award Statement.

Merit-Based Scholarships

The following six scholarships are awarded to those students receiving the top six scores on the Oakland Catholic High School Scholarship Entrance Exam. In addition, the recipients must demonstrate strong academic standing and comply with any other stipulations set by the Scholarship Committee.

Merit scholarships provide half tuition renewable awards contingent upon an annual cumulative GPA of 3.25-3.5, a clean disciplinary record, and involvement in the school.

*The Alumnae Scholarship adheres to all criteria stated above, and its recipient must be a relative of an alumna of Oakland Catholic High School or one of our sister alumna schools.

Additionally, four Oakland Catholic Merit Scholarships are awarded each year to the students with the next four highest scores on the Entrance Exam. These scholarships cover $5,000 of the annual tuition costs and are renewable each year of study, provided that recipients maintain a strong academic record and adhere to the mission and guidelines of Oakland Catholic.

Need-Based Scholarships

Students registered for 9th grade or continuing their studies at Oakland Catholic next year may be eligible for one or more of the need-based scholarships below.

Deborah L. Rice Scholarship, $1,000
Awarded to an incoming freshman student from a single-parent household who qualifies academically and demonstrates financial need.

Dominic Silvaggio, Sr. Scholarship, $1,000
Awarded to a Catholic student in her junior or senior year of study who exhibits a strong work ethic, studies the Italian language, and receives a recommendation from either the Italian faculty member or the Chair of the Foreign Languages Department.

George Rudolph Scholarship, $1,000
Awarded to a continuing student of any year who qualifies academically, demonstrates financial need, and is actively involved in extracurricular activities at Oakland Catholic High School.

Katherine Donahue Freyvogel Scholarships, (2) $2,500 each
Awarded to an incoming freshman who is a Catholic, demonstrates financial need, and exhibits motivation and a strong work ethic. Awarded once every four years, this scholarship is renewable provided that the recipient maintains an overall "B" average, a good disciplinary record, and an enthusiasm for Oakland Catholic High School.

Katherine and Thomas J. M. Freyvogel Family Scholarship, (3) $2,000 each
Awarded to an incoming freshman Catholic student who qualifies for acceptance to Oakland Catholic High School, demonstrates financial need, and exhibits motivation and a strong work ethic as evidenced by their grade school academic records. Awarded once every four years to a freshman, this scholarship is renewable provided that the recipient maintains an overall "B" average, a good disciplinary record, and a love for Oakland Catholic High School.

Leading Ladies Scholarship, $1,000
Awarded to a current student who qualifies academically, demonstrates financial need and exhibits leadership qualities.

Louise DiNardo Scholarship, $1,000
Awarded to an incoming freshman Catholic student who excels academically and demonstrates financial need.

Maribeth and Richard S. Donley Family Scholarship, $1,500
Awarded to a Catholic student, in any year of study, who qualifies academically and demonstrates financial need.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Scholarship
Awarded to an accepted student of Hispanic origin who actively practices the Catholic faith, qualifies academically & behaviorally (no disciplinary or attendance issues), and demonstrates financial need. Click here for more details on eligibility criteria.

Penny McKenna Oakland Catholic Scholarship Fund, $1,000
Awarded to a student in any year of study who qualifies academically and demonstrates financial need.

Ruth Donnelly Egler Scholarship, (2) $1,000
Awarded to an incoming freshman Catholic student who qualifies academically and demonstrates financial need.

Sarafina Spoltore Raimondi Oakland Catholic Scholarship Fund, $3,000 per year
Awarded every two years to an academically eligible freshman who meets the criteria below, this scholarship is renewable each year spent at Oakland Catholic. Honoring its namesake, the daughter of immigrant parents, this scholarship allows young women of immigrant backgrounds (immigrants themselves or first generation) to prepare for their future in the college-preparatory, faith-filled environment of OCHS. Criteria of eligibility:

Accepted to Oakland Catholic, committed to maintaining a strong academic performance, and of outstanding character.
Member of a recently immigrated family or member of an underserved community.
Demonstration of financial need via the FACTS application process.
Submission of a well-written essay that articulates the impact that an Oakland Catholic educational experience will have on the applicant, as well as how she hopes to actively contribute to this unique all-girls academic experience as a student and future alumna.

Susan and Ron Petnuch Family Scholarship, (3) $1,000
Awarded to a student in any year of study who qualifies academically and demonstrates financial need.

Susanna McGraw Freyvogel Scholarship, $1,000
Awarded to an incoming freshman Catholic student who qualifies academically for admission and shows a commitment to her studies through hard work and perseverance

The Dolores Bold Fund, $2,000
Awarded to a student in any year of study who qualifies academically and demonstrates financial need.

The Mary D. Tamburo Fund, $2,000
Awarded to a student in any year of study who qualifies academically and demonstrates financial need.

The Patricia and Judith Cawley Scholarship, $5,000
Created in honor of two sisters who graduated from Cathedral High School due to the tremendous efforts of their mother, this one-time scholarship of $5,000 will be awarded to an academically eligible student who shows great potential and has clearly demonstrated financial need. Several of these scholarships will be awarded each year depending on the annual donation to the scholarship fund.

Thomas and Leona Spelman Scholarship Fund, $1,000
Created to make extracurricular activities accessible to all students, this one-time scholarship will assist with costs associated with travel or other experiential opportunities related to the student's participation in OC's Global Competence Initiative program. Eligible recipients must be continuing students with financial need who are active in GCI and in good-standing academically and behaviorally. Upon completion of the experiences, the students will be asked to participate in a written reflection or presentation about the experience. Requests to be considered for this scholarship should be submitted online or directly to the Director of GCI or school administration.
