At Oakland Catholic, our robust athletic program perfectly complements our students' academic achievements. Apart from physical endurance, OC's student-athletes build confidence, resilience, and strength. Through training and competition, they learn how to motivate themselves and their teammates, developing a lifelong appreciation for hard work and collaboration.
For myself, athletic colleagues, and student athletes, sports are far more than physical exercise. Sports are a means to building mental endurance, leadership skills, and compassion within yourself.
Now more than ever, girls are valued as student-athletes and presented with enormous opportunities to advance, both on and off the playing surface when they demonstrate commitment to their sport. We encourage our student athletes to renew their dedication daily, understanding that talent gives some a head start, but consistency breeds excellence.
The Power of Sports
"Instead of dreaming, make goals for yourself, recognizing that goals must come with a plan for how to achieve them."
-Leah Smith, OCHS '13 and 2016 U.S. Olympic Swimmer
Our students have won everything from Sectional, WPIAL and State titles to full athletic collegiate scholarships and Olympic gold medals. Their discipline is overtly rewarded on the fields and courts, but also translates into stronger academic performance in the classroom and increased self-confidence in their daily lives.
