Grounded in Oakland Catholic’s mission to educate young women to become confident, competent, ethical, global leaders, the Innovation Lab at Oakland Catholic High School exists to foster a collaborative environment where students and faculty engage in project-based learning that encourages skill development, knowledge application, inquiry, and hands-on experience with authentic problem-solving and design processes. The Innovation Lab serves as a place where creativity, engineering, social justice, and challenges intersect in a future-oriented atmosphere, as we prepare our students for higher education and their roles as agents of positive change in our world.
Oakland Catholic is grateful to the McGonigle Family Foundation for their initial outreach to us, approval of our proposal, and willingness to support this endeavor. Their generous grant permitted construction of this high-tech and future-oriented makerspace.
In conjunction with the renovation of adjoining space to create the OC College Counseling Center, the John McGonigle Innovation Lab is a key element of a student-centered space that includes the Collaboration Center, the Innovation Lab, the Academic Resource Center (ARC), and the OC College Counseling Center.
Some needs still exist for the vision of the John McGonigle Innovation Lab to be brought fully to fruition, but thanks to the McGonigle Family Foundation, this new makerspace is operational and already having an impact on the educational experience of Oakland Catholic students.
The Innovation Lab is open to all students, faculty and staff of Oakland Catholic. Teachers have already brought classes to the lab and created lessons to incorporate several of the machines.
Due to current space and occupancy limitations during the pandemic, we ask students or faculty interested in using the lab to please fill out a request form. Director of Academic Technology Mrs. Haslett will review all submissions and coordinate a time for you to work in the lab.
