A Sacred Addition to Campus: Marian Grotto Unveiled

The E3 cohort designed and created a Marian grotto for Oakland Catholic, located just outside the JOA Building. The statue of the Blessed Mother, a gift from St. Paul’s Cathedral, once stood in the hallways of the former elementary school at St. Rosalia Parish in Greenfield, Pittsburgh. Carved from Carrara marble—the same Italian stone used by Michelangelo to create the Pietà—the statue is believed to have been crafted in the early part of the last century and brought to Pittsburgh around that time. With great enthusiasm, the E3 juniors welcomed the statue to campus, planted the surrounding garden, and gathered in prayer this past Friday, May 1st, the feast of St. Joseph the Worker. The entire Oakland Catholic community now looks forward with anticipation to the formal consecration and dedication on May 19th.
