Four members of the OC Speech and Debate Team qualified for the state tournament this past weekend, February 22, 2020.

Congratulations to the following:

Hannah Hoffman, '21 (pictured right) who is the district champion in Lincoln Douglas Debate! Bernadette Azar, '21 and Olivia Smathers, '21 who took 2nd place and qualified for states in Policy Debate! Ella Maier, '22 took 2nd place in Original Oratory and also qualified for states!

Since moderator, Mrs. Heidi Rinkacs took over coaching the Speech and Debate team six years ago, the team has grown and developed in many ways. One exciting way is that this is the highest amount of student achievements who have qualified for the state tournament. Mrs. Rinkacs is very proud of this team and said, "it is exciting that our students are qualifying in both Speech and Debate categories."

The state tournament is held in three weeks at Bloomsburg University. Congratulations and good luck to all!
