For three weeks this summer, OC Senior Michaela William co-facilitated a Creative Writing/English Language Arts (ELA) class for middle school students in grades 6th, 7th, and 8th at The Neighborhood Academy with Dr. Keely Austin of Carnegie Mellon University. Michaela advised and assisted in creating the Creative Writing course and then co-lectured the course to 60 middle schoolers. She also played a key role in guided reading instruction for sixth-grade students needing remedial reading strategies. The Neighborhood Academy is a faith-based, college preparatory, private independent school serving grades 6 to 12, whose mission is to break the cycle of generational poverty.
