Congratulations to Grace Doerfler and Molly DeLuca, OCHS '18, who both received Notre Dame Merit Scholarships. Only 60 total scholarships are awarded nationwide after a rigorous application process, and we are very proud to have two Oakland Catholic seniors as recipients this year.
Molly and Grace found out they were semifinalists for the scholarship in January, following their application to Notre Dame. They were chosen by the university for their academic record, demonstrated leadership, and community service. In order to move to the next round, an essay and video submission were required. They both felt that while the video was the most challenging part of the whole process to create and submit, they also felt that it was the strongest portion of their application because it allowed their personalities to shine through.
In February, both students were notified they made it to the finalist stage of the process, and were flown out to Notre Dame for a weekend. In addition to going through several rounds of interviews with faculty, Grace and Molly also learned more about Notre Dame through tours of campus and spending time with current students.
Grace and Molly are both excited to attend the university in the fall. Grace encourages rising seniors to not take themselves too seriously in the college application process and to be willing to laugh at yourself. Molly's advice is to not put your self-worth into whether or not you get into a particular college.
Best of luck to both Grace and Molly as they move on to the next chapter in their educational careers!
