Jessica Huwar, '20 has been awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award, Gold level. This is awarded to those who conduct acts of kindness and charity to help their communities, and therefore our Nation.

Jess applied to the Prudential Spirit of Service award with the hours she accumulated volunteering for the past three years as a part of the Saint Sebastian Parish Youth Ministry's annual musical. The members of the high school youth group rehearse from December to April in order to present the production to a live audience. Half of the proceeds from the show contribute directly to the Project HOPE Mission fund, which supports the people of David, Kentucky in Appalachia. The other half of our proceeds go to the Pittsburgh Diocesan mission to Chimbote, Peru, where it is used to build and run a local women's health center for the residents. Over the past three years, Jess volunteered for over 550 hours as a member of the cast.

This year, the Saint Sebastian Parish Youth Ministry's annual musical will be presenting Godspell from April 5-7, 2019. Admission is taken as a donation, and all shows are open to the public!
