Thursday April 26th marked the 3rd annual Spring Art and Music Festival, a collaborative celebration of the Fine Arts Departments at Oakland Catholic High School. Art Chair and Director Megan Koroly designed an incredible showcase that featured various media with hundreds of students' drawings, paintings and pottery pieces. Exquisite pottery by seniors Ariana Allen, Caroline Chung and Marisa D'Amico decorated three full tables. AP Studio Art students Liz Brugger and Doley Luo displayed extraordinary samples from their portfolio of college board submissions. Everyone from freshmen to seniors had the opportunity to present their imaginative artwork and not one failed to impress.
Music Chair and Director Sonya Caceres also highlighted our students' talents with an array of instrumental and vocal performances. Freshman Isabel Cardenes played a beautiful solo piece on the harp, while senior Jay Menner and junior Anne Kirkpatrick amazed on the piano. Junior Jayla Ellis's moving recitation of "Still I Rise" by Maya Angelou captivated the audience and sophomore Oyinkansola Adebajo brought down the house with her own spoken word piece. Juniors Daniela Dryer and Hannah Bernacki channeled broadway stars while singing the hit mash up "Found/Tonight". Dazzling with their powerful vocals, the Freshman Squad - Mary Knecht, Delanie Heller, Tess Helms, Emily Jana, and Dalila Weismantle - sang "Mama Who Bore Me" from Spring Awakening. An elegant confluence of the visual and performing arts capped off the evening in the chapel, where faith-inspired student paintings enhanced a concert of sacred music sung by the chamber singers.
These were just some of the highlights at this wonderful event - thank you and congratulations to ALL our inspiring artists. We are already looking forward to next year's festival!
