Asia Challenge Simulation

On Thursday, March 18th, the Oakland Catholic Model United Nations Club participated in the Asia Challenge Simulation through the Asian Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh. Nine area High Schools participated in the event with 70 students. Our 12 students represented the countries of China, Myanmar, South Korea, Indonesia, the Phillippines, Vietnam, and Singapore, acting as members of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.  They debated Labor Issues, Environmental Issues, the Korean Peninsula Crisis and Nuclear De-escalation in North Korea.

At the end of the day, Oakland Catholic students won 5 out of 6 possible awards for Position Papers. 

  • First place awards went to Ava Dufault, ’22, Maya Weaver, '21, and the team of Margot Haller, '23 and Meghan Pohl, '23.
  • Second place awards went to Mia Verdini, '22 and the team of Olivia Krummert, '22 and Ava Barkich, '22
