The 15th annual WPIAL Hall of Fame class was revealed to the public on Wednesday morning in a press conference at the Senator John Heinz History Center and Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum. Congratulations to Oakland Catholic's Brianne O'Rourke '05 and Mallory Dietrich '06!
Eight Oakland Catholic students recently placed at the statewide Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science competition, with three students receiving first place awards. In addition to navigating Penn State's campus, sleeping in the dorms, and visiting the Berkey Creamery, students delivered their formal presentations to panels of judges and fielded technical questions about their experiments.
The Pittsburgh Chapter of the Links recently awarded OC sophomore Maddy Ng 2nd place in their Young Master Writers Program Competition for her poem "Smothering a Child’s Spark." Along with a certificate of recognition, Maddy received a $250 monetary prize. Congratulations, Maddy!
OC Junior Jaylee Witcher has been accepted to the CURIE Academy at Cornell University this summer. Selecting from "an extensive pool of outstanding applicants," the CURIE Academy invites high school girls who excel in math and science to explore engineering in an interactive atmosphere.
As her mother, Jordan Doctor, enthused, "She continues to amaze me every day!"
