Searching the Internet

Google

Google is the largest and most popular database (accesses over 1.5 billion URLs), and it now features a news search, image search, and shopping search (”Froogle”).

Vivisimo

A more sophisticated engine than Google, Vivisimo gives you clustered results in various subject areas.

Teoma

A newcomer in the search engine field, Teoma gives you results, suggestions for refining your search, and a separate list of link collections on your topic.

Image / Sound Searching

Altavista

Choose “images” or “MP3/Audio” from the top page. Allows some specification of formats within “Image Search.”

FAST Multimedia Search

Allows access to a large selection of multimedia; can search images, audio, video, or all media. Advanced searching allows specification of formats and types for each medium.
