The Irish Way
The Irish Way is the renowned summer study abroad program for American high school students. Western Pennsylvania Conservancy Community Garden Planting Days
Over 5,000 volunteers help to beautify our region by planting more than 350,000 flowers in 140 community gardens in 19 counties each spring. A complete listing of the communities where you can find gardens is on their website at: www.waterlandlife.org Gardens are planted almost every day in May.

University of Dayton Pre-Engineering Program Camp
The UD PEP camp is a three day, two night residential camp where students engage in engineering design activities. The camp is held from Friday 27 June - Sunday 29 June 2008. Registration must be completed by April 1st. For more information please download the flyer / application.
Women in Engineering Summer Camp at the University of Dayton
You’ve heard about engineering, but what is it, really? What do engineers do? What’s it like on the job? And is engineering for you? Find out what engineering’s all about at the Women in Engineering Summer Camp at the University of Dayton in Ohio, July 13-18, 2008.
You’ll get to:
* Explore engineering on your own terms with other girls your age from across the country.
* Get a taste of college life, and make new friends along the way, by staying in a dorm with other high school girls who share your interests.

Summer Seminar on World Affairs
The Summer Seminar on World Affairs is a one-week, intensive look at some of the major current international issues confronting the United States in its political, economic, and security relations with the rest of the world.
This unique program, designed for student leaders entering their junior or senior year in high school, is sponsored jointly by the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University.
The Summer Seminar will be held during June 16–20, 2008 at Duquesne University in downtown Pittsburgh. Students will meet each day from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.
The sponsoring organizations are offering 70 scholarships to those students who are selected to participate in this program. Students will be expected to handle the cost of their transportation to and from the campus.

University of Pittsburgh Technology Leadership Institute Summer Program
The mission of the Technology Leadership Institute (TLI) is to provide high school students with opportunities, tools and motivation needed to pursue Computer Science related degrees and excel academically, socially and professionally. A pre-College Computer Science program is offered June 23 to July 31, Mondays - Thursdays from 9:00am to 3:15pm
We are proposing an academic year component that will include Saturday workshops (2 workshops/month), college classes (free for students) and internships. Applicants should be available and willing to commit to the year long program.
Applicants should:
* Be entering grades 9, 10, 11 or 12 in Fall 2007
* Have a strong interest in pursuing a computer science or related career.
Traditionally underrepresented students are strongly encouraged to apply.

Forensic Science and Law Workshop at Duquesnse University
Students and faculty of the Bayer School Forensic Science and Law program in participation with the Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law will be teaching a three-day workshop, held July 28-30. Approximately 20 high school students from Pittsburgh and the surrounding area will be selected to participate.
Dates – June 28-30
Time – 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. daily
Location – Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Cost – $80 participation fee (includes complimentary t-shirt and all breakfasts and lunches)
Applicants must be junior or senior high school students as of Fall 2008 and have a strong interest in the sciences. Applicants also must have at least a 2.5 GPA. All application forms are reviewed on a first come basis, those received by May 9, 2008 will take priority. Final deadline for applications must be postmarked by June 20, 2008.

Washington Summer Scholars
The Washington Summer Scholars conference invites select high school students to challenge themselves by taking a college-level, 3-credit course at American University in Washington, DC. It’s an exciting way to prepare for college life, with rigorous and rewarding courses of study designed to help you excel inside and outside the classroom. The program runs from July 7th - July 25. Citiparks Lifeguard
Anyone interested in becoming a Lifeguard: The City of Pittsburgh needs lifeguards this summer. Registration for training call 412-323-7928. Courses are being held at the Oliver Bath House 29 March - April 26 on Saturdays from 12pm-6pm. A second session will be held 6 May - 29 May, Tuesdays & Thursdays 6pm-10pm and Saturdays 9am-6pm. The course fee is $60, you must be a city resident and 16 yrs old by June 7, 2008. Starting Lifeguard pay is $8.35.
Robert E. Cook Honors College Summer Honors Program
Indiana University of Pennsylvania Honors College Program is a place where talented high school students come together for two weeks and form a community of scholars who explore academic and collegiate living in a real college setting. Working closely with dedicated professors offers promising students the unique opportunity to experience college life while still in high school. WPTS Radio Summer Program
Funded in part by the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters, the WPTS Radio Summer Program is a unique opportunity for high school students to gain hands-on experience in radio broadcasting, as participants not only learn from broadcast professionals but also will co-host and produce a twice-weekly radio program, broadcast on 92.1 WPTS-FM. Southwest Pennsylvania Area Health Education Center (AHEC), Inc.
is pleased to announce its 6th annual AHEC Summer Health Career Academy. The Health Career Academy will take place for five days, July 14-18, on the main campus of the University of Pittsburgh. The academy is designed for current ninth and tenth grade students who are interested in learning about opportunities in various health careers and the academic preparation necessary for these careers. Creek Camp: Environmental Science Camp @ Allegheny College
Session I : 13 - 18 July 2008
Session II : 20 - 25 July 2008
Allegheny College Creek Connections is offering two, one-week environmental science camp opportunities during the summer. Creek Camp is available to a limited number of interested 9th and 10th grade students from the Pittsburgh area. Campers will get college experience… living in a residence hall, using scientific equipment, interacting with college student counselors, environmental professionals and college professors… as well as hands-on environmental science/ecology activities throughout the richly bio-diverse French Creek watershed. You are required to submit an application and a recommendation from a science teacher to be considered for Creek Camp. If accepted, your cost is $150 for the week. The fee includes your stay in the residence hall, all meals, linens (just bring your own pillow), camp t-shirt, and take-home equipment. The Bayer Foundation is helping to fund this opportunity for Pittsburgh-area high school students.
