Fall Sports

Crew

Coach: Mr. Joe Mariuzza

Dipping an oar into the water on the first stroke of a crisp fall afternoon is always a memorable moment. Rowing is an activity that requires both physical and mental strength and stamina, putting participants in peak condition. Oakland Catholic offers crew as a club sport at the Novice, Junior Varsity and Varsity levels. The program begins in the fall with instruction and races and continues in the winter with conditioning that will prepare athletes for the demands of spring competition. Weekday practices on the beautiful Allegheny River train rowers for exciting weekend races on waterways throughout the region.

Crosscountry

Coach: Mr. George Rudolph
Schedule: 2009-2010 Cross country

Endurance, both mental and physical, is crucial for Oakland Catholic’s crosscountry runners. Beginning with summer training at Schenley Park and for veterans, the beach, participants improve the strength and speed that push them to cross the finish line ahead of the pack. Members of the crosscountry team are united by their passion and dedication, lending encouragement and support to one another when most needed at practices and meets throughout the fall season.

Cheerleading

Coaches: Annalisa Pricener, Megan Worbs

Exciting cheers, athletic stunts and rousing chants are all part of the Oakland Catholic Cheerleading Team’s trophy-winning routines. As members of a competitive squad, OC Cheerleaders take school pride and spirit beyond our walls and perform at contests across the region, consistently placing at both the local and national levels. OC Cheerleading requires a positive attitude, hard work, and cooperation. Bring a smile and lots of enthusiasm to try-outs this fall!

Colorguard

With their elaborate, challenging and energized routines, Oakland Catholic’s Colorguard provides fans with exciting halftime shows at Central Catholic football games. As they grow together in style, technique and performance art, members of OC’s Colorguard entertain audiences one weekend after another. All are welcome to try-out; the colorguard is present at home and away football games during the regular season.

Field Hockey

Schedule: 2009 Fall Field Hockey

Learn to dribble, pass and shoot (with a stick!) or hone your strategic and game skills on the Oakland Catholic Field Hockey Team. The OC Field Hockey Team is open to all students. Regular practices are scheduled to begin mid-August in preparation for the fall season, followed by the start of the Indoor Field Hockey League which runs though the Winter. Optional spring and summer conditioning are also available for interested players. All home games are played at Winchester Thurston.

Golf

Schedule: 2009 Golf schedule

The Oakland Catholic Golf Team teaches athletes how to perfect their individual games as they work on their technical skills, gain strength and build endurance. Golfers also learn from one another, through example, encouragement and team spirit. Golf season lasts from mid-August through October. Home games are played at Schenley Golf Course. Join us on the fairway!

Tennis

Perfect your serve, backhand and overhead smash on Oakland Catholic’s Tennis Team. For those who are just becoming interested, it’s never too late to start playing – tennis is a competitive and recreational sport that many enjoy all their lives. For veterans, OC’s Junior Varsity and Varsity teams challenge singles and doubles players to sharpen their skills and give it their all in every match. Practices and home matches are held at the Green Valley Country Club from mid-August through October.

Soccer

Oakland Catholic soccer players are ready for anything. The physical strength, speed, and agility this sport develops complement the mental strategy and knowledge of technique required to compete. Stressing comradery and self-discipline is what makes OC Soccer so successful. All skill levels are welcome to try-out; practices and home matches are held at West Field in Homestead.

Volleyball

Serve, spike and score on Oakland Catholic’s winning Volleyball Team. Mastery of technique, thrilling competition and physical fitness are just a few of the perks this sport has to offer interested players. The skills learned on OC’s Volleyball Team will be called on in competitive and recreational games for the rest of their lives. Volleyball is offered at the Junior Varsity and Varsity levels; home games are held in the Donahue Pavilion.
