All AP U.S. Government and Politics students and Economics students be sure to stay current on information published over the summer on the next G-20 Summit. This summit will be held in Pittsburgh on September 24th and 25th, 2009. Economic and political issues will undoubtedly surface prior to this event. Familiarize yourself with the issues. There will be discussion and research on the topics presented at the summit. -

OC Alumna named prestigious Goldwater Scholar
University of Pittsburgh Honors College student and OC Alumna, Elizabeth Oczypok has been awarded a Goldwater Scholarship. Pitt Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg noted that, “Being named a Goldwater Scholar is the highest honor that can be earned by an American undergraduate studying in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering.” Elizabeth is a junior majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology in the School of Arts and Sciences. PA’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program provides a tax credit of up to 90% for companies that donate to approved non-profit scholarship organizations in the Commonwealth.
Since 2001 the Diocese of Pittsburgh has raised close to $18 million from 220 companies for its Scholastic Opportunity Scholarship (SOS) fund.
All C Corporations, S Corporations and Subchapter S Corporations can give from their tax bill up to $300,000.
This means now all partnerships, such as law, accounting and architectural firms can give aid.
