Team and chaperones, et al leave around noon (after 4th period) April 16, back home April 17. Carpools are one of those things that seem to work themselves out but any questions about carpools please let us know. Girls should arrive at the race site around 3-3:30, the drive from Pgh is around three hours. Once at the race site, we pull off boats, rig, do short row on course, come back, secure boats. Food will be provided at site. While girls are out parents set up tent, get dinner ready. After dinner we all go back to hotel. (Hilton Garden Inn Columbus/Polaris, 8535 Lyra Drive, Columbus, OH 43240, Phone 614-846-8884) Rooms for girls are decided by boat/position. All coxswains are in same room as they need to be up early on Saturday. There will be a team meeting (time TBA) at the hotel before lights-out. Parents welcome. Room rate is $103.00 for parents
Saturday – It’s a full racing day – we race until 3 or 4 pm– after which we get boats back on the trailer and head home. Girls will re-rig the following Monday.
Schedule of race day: Click “Heat Sheet” on left-hand side. This will probably not be available until sometime this week, but when it is, please print out a copy for yourself to bring to the race. Failing that, the coxswains always know the schedule.
Directions: From Pittsburgh, head south on I-79 towards Washington, PA - about 25 miles depending on where you start from. Travel 165 miles westbound on I-70 passing through Wheeling, West Virginia, towards Columbus, OH. Total distance from Pittsburgh is about 200 miles, driving time about 3.5 hours.
If you wish to avoid rush-hour traffic around downtown Columbus, OH, take the beltway I-270 South towards Cincinnati (exit 108A). Continue on I-270 S and I-270 N for about 25 miles then take exit 13B to merge into Cemetery Road. Within a mile, turn right on Lyman Drive.
If you arrive well after the rush-hour, you can continue on I-70 (do not take exit to I-270 South) and drive right through Columbus city/downtown until you reach the far side of the I-270 beltway. Take exit 93 to merge into I-270 N towards Cleveland. Drive about 4.5 miles to exit 13B to merge into Cemetery Road. Within a mile, turn right on Lyman Drive.
Directions to the race site (Griggs Reservoir Park, 3751 Riverside Dr., Columbus, OH 43221: Leave the hotel, turn left on Cemetery Road which becomes Fishinger Road on the west side of the I-270. Immediately after crossing the bridge, turn right on Reservoir Road. The race site is off Riverside Drive (Route 33). Continue couple miles on Riverside Drive to follow Parking Signs to the entrance of the campground parking area. Shuttle buses will take you to the race site area.
