Our Lady of Mercy Academy
Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Class of 1957 had a fabulous 50th reunion weekend! On Friday, October 5, about 20 classmates, and a few spouses, met at the Grand Concourse Restaurant for dinner. On Saturday October 6th, 13 classmates met at Carlow Campus School for a wonderful tour given by Sr. Mary Paul. The highlight of the tour was reconnecting with Sr. Amelia, who is 95 years old, and taught the women math. She remembered quite a few in the class, and although she was unable to attend the reunion, she is doing great! After the tour, about 31 classmates gathered at the Sheraton, Station Square and enjoyed a wonderful dinner. Sr. Maria Immaculee, who taught French, was able to join them. Classmates came from as far away as San Francisco and Florida and many who stayed overnight at the Sheraton stayed up until the wee hours of the morning just catching up! Sunday morning 9 classmates met for breakfast. The weekend was full of fun and fond memories.
Sacred Heart High School
Sacred Heart High School, Class of ’47 had a terrific turnout for their 60th reunion! 26 classmates attended a luncheon at Duranti’s Restaurant on September 22, 2007.

On October 14th the women attended Mass at Sacred Heart Church which was followed by a brunch at the Casbah Restaurant in Shadyside. Of the 182 alumnae, 21 are deceased, and 21 we were unable to contact at all. A special thanks to the SHHS Class of ’57 Reunion Committee: Barbara Thomas Barbieri, Mary Eileen Patton Brown, Carol Mussman Burwinkel, Sr. Mary Clark, Bernadette Opalko Hull, Donna Camp Kirsch, Gloria Del Grosso Moriarity, and Lynne Ferris Soltis.
Sacred Heart High School, Class of ’77, had a wonderful reunion weekend. The fun began Friday, October 5th, at the Bloomfield Bridge Tavern, owned by our classmate, Lynn Blough Frankowski. Approximately 45 classmates gathered to eat, drink, and catch up with former friends. On Saturday, October 6th, approximately 25 classmates and 5 former teachers/administrators, gathered for a Mass at Sacred Heart Church, with Fr. George Palick. Followed by a tour of the De Paul School and a luncheon at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association.
Sacred Heart High School, Class of ’82, after 15 years, there was a lot of catching up to do for the SHHS Class of 1982. Forty-two classmates gathered for a Girls’ Night Out at Silky’s Crow’s Nest along the Allegheny River on September 1, 2007. They came from as far as Virginia, Ohio and New Jersey. Cindy McNulty joined us with a slide show that brought back many fond memories of our days at SHHS. Some classmates brought in old photos, so we tested our memories trying putting names with familiar faces and recalling special events like dances and class picnics. The next day, 65 classmates and their families gathered on a beautiful day at Thornburg Park. Everyone enjoyed meeting spouses and children. A delicious catered lunch was served. Much to our delight, George Rudolph stopped by. The reunion weekend reminded us that our high school bonds and experiences are ones we will never forget and hopefully always appreciate.
For the last few years, some members of the SHHS Class of 1982 have been gathering at the Church Brew Works at 6:30pm on the Friday before Thanksgiving. It is informal - no reservations required. Now that we have more up-to-date contact information, we hope to spread the word and see more classmates there. If you would like additional information, please contact Mary Pais Jenkins at littlelamb128@comcast.net.

St. Paul Cathedral High School Class of ’67, had a great 40th reunion on September 15, 2007, at Duranti’s Restaurant in Oakland. Classmates came from all over Pennsylvania, as well as Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Michigan, and Florida. We stayed for hours chatting, singing class songs and cheers, (yes, we remembered most of them) and just sharing CHS memoires. We had so many laughs, it was really fun. We hope to have a 45th reunion as well as a few mini-reunions in Pittsburgh and other areas. All class members should keep us up to date on any address or email changes. Email Betsy Boyle at: bbsarsfield@comcast.net
St. Paul Cathedral High School, Class of ’72. The Class of ‘72 has had 7 reunions, and as we go along, they seem to just get better. 108 graduated with our class, and on October 20, 2007, 50 of us joined for a great reunion at the Radisson Hotel in Greentree. They came from everywhere….Oregon, Massachusetts, Ohio and a contingent of 5 came from Florida! And we heard from friends in Arizona, Kansas and all parts of PA, who could not join us.
At the 20th reunion, we instituted the most prestigious “Beanie We Never Wore” award. Although one more class after ours was required to buy the grey wool beanie to be worn to church, we don’t think we wore it more than a handful of times. Now, every time we meet, we award the Beanie to the classmate most deserving and who most exemplifies the qualities of a “Cathedralite.” An all star judging panel of the previous winners ( Barb Stone Stanney and Maryanne Tierney Valerio) and the owner (Peggy McNeill) select the most honored awardees.
This year, the reunion was in October, which also happens to be Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We only saw it fit to award the coveted beanie to Jean Best Wright, a breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed in January 2007, during her routine annual mammogram. Jean had asked everyone via email to donate something pink for door prizes, and what an amazing outpouring of support! (See the OC Review of September… Jean was appointed a Worker’s Compensation Judge in Erie County in March 2007). We are most proud of Jean, and her accomplishments and her continued efforts to educate women and raise awareness about Breast Cancer.
And one word to other Cathedral grads in the late 60’s and early 70’s…”Do you remember Scheherazade?”
