Philosophy/Objectives
The skills developed, concepts attained, and knowledge acquired through the mathematics program in the secondary school are essential for success at the college level. These skills are also applicable by students as members of society and in other curriculum areas. Preparation for college and student acquisition of problem-solving techniques, skills, and structures make up the major theme of the mathematics curriculum at Oakland Catholic High School. Courses and units of instruction are provided in the mathematics program to support this major theme.

Instructors
Mr. Thomas Crock is a member of the Math and Science Department at OC.
He is currently teaching Business Calculus, AP Calculus I, and CP Physics.
He also teaches at the University of Pittsburgh and the Community College of Allegheny County.
Mrs. Colleen Ladd received her BS degree in Math Education at Duquesne University and her Masters in Education at the University of Pittsburgh. She has been teaching in the Diocese of Pittsburgh since 1977. She is currently teaching Algebra II CP, Advanced Algebra, and Geometry CP.
Mrs. Christine McKenna is beginning her 26th year of teaching with the Diocese of Pittsburgh. She received her BS in Secondary Education Mathematics and her Masters of Education Mathematics from Edinboro State University. She is currently teaching Honors Geometry, Trig/Precalculus, and Calculus CP.
Ms. Catherine Sciacca has received her BS in Mathematics and her secondary teaching certificate at Carlow College. She is currently teaching Algebra II Honors, Geometry, Algebra II/Trig Honors, and AP Calculus II.
Mr. Robert Maydak is employed by the Pittsburgh-Mt. Oliver Intermediate Unit as a Math Specialist and has been working with Diocesan high school students for the past twenty years. He earned a degree in Mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh and a Masters degree in Secondary Mathematics and Guidance Counseling from Duquesne University. Previously he taught at CCAC, Avonworth High School and was an Industrial Engineering Computer Programmer.
Karisa Decker is a graduate of Duquesne University with a degree in Secondary Mathematics and instructional technology. She was a member of the Duquesne women’s volleyball team and current volleyball coach at Oakland Catholic. She is also currently teaching Honors Algebra II, Honors Geometry, and Fundamental Geometry.
Ms. Lori Beiles is a member of the math and science departments at OC. She received her BA in Physics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her Master of Arts in Education from Wake Forest University. She is currently teaching CP Physics, CP Algebra I and Honors Algebra I.
