Oakland Catholic remembers a true friend to the school, and champion of all girls' education, Ruth Donnelly Egler.
From Oakland Catholic President, Mary Claire Kasunic:
"It saddens me to announce the passing of Ruth Donnelly Egler. A product and champion of all girls' Catholic education, Ruth was instrumental in establishing Oakland Catholic High School and was truly one of the school's Founding Mothers. She supported the school in numerous ways throughout the last 27 years, some visible and some unseen, and deserves our recognition as a loyal and devoted Friend.
Although many of you never had the opportunity to meet Ruth, she remained actively interested in all things Oakland Catholic unbeknownst to you. Ruth annually sponsored the end-of-year Faculty/Staff luncheon, believing that the Faculty and Staff should be recognized for their herculean efforts each year. She made it a point to inquire about professional development in which the faculty was engaged, and was always eager to hear the latest accomplishments of OC students, faculty, and staff. When I first took on my current role as President, Ruth is one of the first individuals with whom I had lunch, and I was privileged to hear a firsthand account of how Oakland Catholic High School was born, her perspective and experience with all girls' education, and her strong belief in the valuable experience that we are called to provide the young women of our region. She serves as an inspiration to those of us who carry the torch for all girls' Catholic education in Western Pennsylvania. May we honor her memory with the work we do on behalf of Oakland Catholic High School.
Funeral arrangements are stated below in her obituary. As testament to her unfailing support of our mission, it was her personal wish that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Oakland Catholic High School. We remain forever grateful to Ruth for her guidance and friendship as we extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends. May her soul rest in peace."
